Mugshot Story
In the early hours of 19 September 2010, 24-year-old Peter Gene “Bruno Mars” Hernandez was arrested in the men’s room of Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Hotel & Casino after a bathroom attendant flagged security about a “baggy of white powder.”
Police recovered 2.6 grams of cocaine, and the rising pop singer—whose debut single Just the Way You Are was climbing the charts that very week—posed for an unusually beaming booking photo at the Clark County Detention Center.
Mars struck a plea deal four months later: 12 months of informal probation, $2,000 fine, 200 hours of community service and drug-counseling sessions. He satisfied every condition (even logging extra service hours), so on 16 January 2012 a judge wiped the conviction, leaving his record clean. The grinning mugshot, once a potential career-killer, is now a pop-culture curio that underscores his swift rebound to multi-Grammy superstardom.
