Cher 1959 Premium Cotton T-Shirt
Mugshot Story
In the early hours of January 27 1959, 13-year-old Cherilyn Sarkisian (long before the world knew her simply as Cher) was taken to the Los Angeles Police – Hollywood Division after she “borrowed” a friend’s car and drove it to a local drive-in.
During a 2013 appearance on The Tonight Show with her mother, Georgia Holt, the singer recalled that she got tired of waiting while her friend ran an errand, so she slid behind the wheel—without a licence—and set off on her own mini-adventure.
Police soon caught up, and the wide-eyed, slightly bemused booking photo you see above—dated 01-27-59, slate BK 2154713—was snapped as evidence. She was processed as a juvenile, released with a warning, and no formal charges stuck, but the picture lay hidden for decades until Jay Leno surprised Cher with it on national television, turning a youthful lapse in judgement into pop-culture gold.
